The SPCB’s certification process is a voluntary program allowing pharmacy professionals to demonstrate their specialty pharmacy aptitude and expertise in their designated specialized areas at the national level. Unlike obligatory and state-specific licensure process, the CSP credential is a voluntary program that was developed to recognize individuals who demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to provide competent specialty pharmacy services in the United States and Canada. The certification is relied on by employers, manufacturers, providers, and patients as an indicator that a professional is highly trained, competent in a variety of practice settings, and dedicated to career-long professional development.
“Shields and Excelera are committed to specialty pharmacy excellence, which is achieved through an integrated care model in which the pharmacist plays a crucial role on the patient’s multidisciplinary care team,” said Greg Boll, Director of Network Operations at Excelera. “The dedicated pharmacists that provide individualized care for complex patients at Shields- and Excelera-affiliated health systems are truly experts in their respective fields, often representing some of the most qualified specialty pharmacists in the industry. The elite CSP accreditation allows these professionals to demonstrate their expertise at the national level, and we wholeheartedly congratulate them on this significant achievement!”
“Congratulations to all the pharmacists at Shields and Excelera in earning this national distinction,” said Jen Donovan, Vice President of Clinical Services at Shields. “Professional development is a vital part of the continued success of these pharmacists and our company as a whole. Their commitment to specialty pharmacy excellence is critical for improving patient care around the country.”
As of March 2021, there are 1,122 pharmacists who have achieved the CSP credential. The continued growth in the number of CSP credentials earned demonstrates the specialty pharmacy industry’s unwavering commitment to deliver high touch, patient-centric, safe and effective specialty pharmacy patient care, and promote continued professional development.
