STOUGHTON, Mass. — Shields Health Solutions, the premier specialty pharmacy accelerator in the country, announced today that Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer John Lucey has decided to transition to an advisory role. Since co-founding the company in 2012 with Jack Shields, Lucey held various leadership positions and grew the company to partner with nearly 80 health systems nationwide. Stephen West, currently President of Shields, will be appointed CEO.
In Lucey’s advisory role, he’ll continue to work closely and collaboratively with Shields’ leadership team to support health system partners and patients.
“After founding the Company with Jack in 2012 and the incredible 12-year journey leading the business, I have decided the business is well-positioned for me to transition to an advisory role. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to start and lead Shields to what it has become today,” said Lucey.

We achieved that success as a team, and I have been fortunate to work with an outstanding group of professionals within Shields. Under Lucey’s leadership, Shields has helped to transform how specialty pharmacy services are delivered to the most critically ill patients. He developed Shields’ industry-leading integrated care model, set the company’s strategic vision and scaled the business model to impact more than 1 million specialty patients. Its clinical care model is proven to lower total cost of care by 13% and its nationwide footprint includes over 80 health systems and 900 hospitals across nearly 45 states.
Stephen West has held various leadership roles at Shields since 2017. He has led the Strategy organization and has been President since 2022. He has been instrumental to the company’s strategic direction and operational initiatives, ensuring that the highest level of integrated care is delivered consistently across each of its partners. He has also helped to identify and execute on innovative growth initiatives, expanding Shields into new service lines, hospitals, disease states and therapies.
